The famed Indonesian fashion designer, Sapto Djojokartiko recently presented his latest collection for the Spring/Summer 2020, entitled ‘Wisik’, which was taken from the Sanskrit languange which translated to the ‘inner whisper’, or ‘mind whisper’.

That being said, the Wisik collection is an interpretation of Sapto Djojokartiko about the unique meaning of traditional performing arts in Indonesia, especially the Javanese puppet show, also known as ‘Wayang’. During his childhood, Wayang often become entertainment when visiting his hometown of Solo, Central Java. Furthermore, aside from taking inspiration from Wayang, the ‘Gunungan’ motives adorn most of his Wisik collection. 

Presenting 57 looks in the collections, Sapto Djojokartiko managed to maintain his signature, by using and exploring Indonesian culture and literature, which then applied and re-presented in a modern-look. Even without leaving his trademark with the soft colors, some of Sapto’s Wisik collection also featured some bold and neon colours, such as pink and green. 

Taking place at the Bali Room, Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, the fashion show is being hold in collaboration with the hotel’s 57th anniversary. The Runway was being set futuristicly, and arranged with the glass-pyramid decor, which Sapto claimed to be an interpretations as ‘Tumpeng’, to commemorate the National Independence Day of Indonesia.
